KKR vs RR, IPL Eliminator 2018: Shah Rukh Khan sends wishes to Kolkata in middle of his shower, watch video

Rajasthan, who were kept well ahead in the chase by Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson, faltered in towards the end to mess it up. Moments after the match, Kolkata's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan posted a video wishing his team 'in the middle of his shower'.

Two-time Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Rajasthan Royals by 25 runs in the best-ever conditions that the visitors could have got. Yet, Rajasthan, who were kept well ahead in the chase by Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson, faltered in towards the end to mess it up. Moments after the match, Kolkata's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan posted a video wishing his team 'in the middle of his shower'.

Put to bat first, Kolkata lost their top order to Krishnappa Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal, before Dinesh Karthik notched up his yet another fifty and was ably supported by a fiery 25-ball 49 by Andre Russell which took their runs tally to 169 runs at the loss of seven wickets.

Rajasthan took off to a cautious start and slowly steadied their innings after the early dismissal of Rahul Tripathi. Samson and Rahane set up a patient 50-run partnership before the skipper departed, followed by the former. And that is where everything went into a disarray for Rajasthan. From 63 needed off 35, the tourists fell short of 25 runs in the end.

Moments after the, SRK took to Twitter to say, "Missed talking to the fabulous boys from KKR...was getting ready for shoot. So in the middle of my shower sending all my love. Wow #KKRHaiTayyar so so proud and happy."

Kolkata have now won four games in a row in IPL 2018 and look mighty strong ahead of their Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad two nights hence at Eden Gardens. SRH, who finished at the top of the table with 18 points in 14 games, lost their last four matches. "I think winning 4 games on the row feels good. Especially this one as we were under the pump," said Karthik after the match. "Every game is important from here on. Next game is important as there are two good teams which will be competing."

Shah Rukh Khan has been busy with the shooting of Aanand L Rai directorial Zero. After shooting in Mumbai, the filming has now begun in Huntsville. Earlier last week, SRK reached the beautiful location in Alabama. They have already filmed at different locations including Grille 29, the Huntsville Botanical Garden and the Hindu Cultural Center of Alabama in Harvest.

Shah Rukh Khan and Aanand L Rai were seen on the sets of the film Zero recently enjoying some free time. In between shots, they were seen chilling with their crew members. Shah Rukh Khan’s manager Pooja Dadlani shared the picture from the set and wrote, “We can chat absolutely anywhere! Love these candid conversations… #zero.”

In Zero, Shah Rukh Khan will be seen in never seen before avatar as a vertically challenged man. The film stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the leading roles alongside SRK. This is their second collaboration as the trio after Yash Chopra’s last directorial, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. It will also have simply amazing cameos of Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. This will be, technically, the last film of late actress Sridevi. Zero will release on December 21, 2018.

Ekta Kapoor has reportedly found her Anjali (played by Kajol in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) in young actor Yogita Bihani. Ekta is making a TV remake of the Karan Johar film.
Ekta Kapoor, who is remaking Karan Johar’s hit family saga Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham for TV, has found her Anjali (played by Kajol in the film) in young actor Yogita Bihani. Salman Khan’s promo for his upcoming game show, Dus Ka Dum, also featured Yogita. The 2001 film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol and Jaya Bachchan in lead roles.

A Mumbai Mirror report quoted a source as saying, “Earlier, Erica Fernandes of Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi was being considered for the part but thanks to Yogita’s newfound popularity she will play the part in the show which is titled Dil Hi Toh Hai.”

Confirming the report, casting director Mukesh Chhabra also tweeted, “Congratulations! #YogitaBihani for your fabulous achievement! You deserve it every bit! We are really happy to have worked with you in the Promo of Dus Ka Dum. Aim for the Stars #MCCC #Casting”

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham traced the story of a family with two sons - one of them being adopted. The family breaks apart, only to come back together and realise that bonds of love are equally strong as those of blood.

Here are the details of Suhana Khan’s 18th birthday bash

Suhana Khan will turn 18 tomorrow and the Khan family is going to take off to an exotic location to ring in her birthday. A source informed a publication Suhana Khan's birthday bash plans.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan will turn 18 tomorrow. Gauri Khan shared a pretty photo of Suhana and posted, ‘Gearing up for a birthday party’. Suhana’s 18th birthday bash will be grand and the family has already invited close friends and family. Last year, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan had thrown a lavish party at their residence in the city.

A source close to the family told Filmfare, “Suhana is super excited for her 18th birthday. She is ready to take off to an exotic location to bring in her birthday with family and a few friends. It’s her 18th so it has to be special.”

Suhana Khan is currently pursuing her studies in London and is an acting aspirant. She is often clicked with dad on the sets of his films. Shah Rukh Khan had told DNA, “Suhana wants to be an actress. I see that zeal in her. She’s extremely good on stage, I’ve seen her performances. She’s admittedly a cinema fan and wants to be in the industry. But my point is simple — you need to complete your education before doing anything. That’s the only thing I have told my children. Otherwise, they are free to be in the film industry, not be in it and do whatever they like. I will be supportive of whatever they want to do.”

Suhana Khan is extremely popular and has several fan club accounts dedicated to her on social media. She is often spotted with Shah Rukh Khan in IPL matches and parties.

Happy Birthday Suhana Khan! From the bikini picture to nepotism, 5 times Shah Rukh Khan spoke about Suhana

When it comes to his children, Shah Rukh Khan is clear and stringent on how he wants them to be when they grow up. As his daughter, Suhana Khan turns an adult today -- 18, we revisit the times when Shah Rukh Khan spoke about her to the media and how he has always been the light at the end of the tunnel for Suhana Khan.

Among all the star kids in Bollywood, none is as popular among the paparazzi as Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana Khan. As she turned 18 today, an adult, talks about her life ahead has become a hot topic among fans and followers of the Bollywood superstar. Yesterday, Suhana Khan's mother Gaurai Khan had posted a picture stating her daughter big birthday bash plans and we also know that her life goals lie with Bollywood.

We have even heard it from Suhana’s father and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, a number of times that his daughter wants to become an actress and follow on his footsteps. And now that her best friend, Ananya Panday, is set to make her Bollywood debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2, it isn’t hard to imagine if Suhana Khan is growing restless for her own debut in Bollywood.

One would think that being Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, making her Bollywood debut is going to be a walk in the park. But, is that really how Suhana Khan’s acting career will get a kick-start. Like her friend, can she also start starring in films right after finishing high-school? Well, only daddy dearest can answer that.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane and see five such instances when Shah Rukh Khan spoke about his daughter Suhana Khan and how he hopes for his daughter’s future to unfold.

“Of course I’ll help my daughter like any other regular parent would. I will support her in all her endeavours. I will cry with her when she fails and I will celebrate with her when she succeeds. I will give her the best possible education that I can and that is it. I was an outsider and had to build my way up and I would want her to do the same,” Shah Rukh Khan had said in an interview with NDTV while promoting his film When Harry Met Sejal, last year.

When it comes to education, there is no compromise with Shah Rukh Khan and not even his daughter can dodge this bullet. Unlike her friend, Ananya, Suhana would probably not get to debut in a film anytime soon as the Badshah of Bollywood has strict rules when it comes to education.
“We have a simple rule in the family. Each and every one of us in the family has to at least have an undergraduate degree at least. That is the minimum level of education that is mandatory in our household with no exceptions. My children are aware and abide by the same. Suhana still has 4-5 years to go before she can pursue a career in acting. She has to be an undergraduate first,” – SRK said to reporters at a press conference last year.

Suhana Khan Turns 18 And These Pics Prove That SRK Is Both Her Best Friend & A Doting Dad!

One of biggest superstars of the country is also a doting Daddy in real life. Shah Rukh Khan might be one of the busiest actors of the country but you can learn a lot about work-life balance from him.

The way he juggles between his professional and personal commitments speak volumes about him as a person. He has always been a protective Dad and the way he has been there for all three of his kids is heartwarming.

In a press-conference earlier, SRK once mentioned how their family is just like a usual Indian family. He said,
“We have a simple rule in the family. Each and every one of us in the family has to at least have an undergraduate degree at least. That is the minimum level of education that is mandatory in our household with no exceptions. My children are aware and abide by the same. Suhana still has 4-5 years to go before she can pursue a career in acting. She has to be an undergraduate first."
Once, Dad SRK even came to Suhana's defense when some websites ran stories about her daughter's viral bikini pictures. He said,
"She was on a beach so she was wearing beachwear. She was with her little brother. You clicked her sheepishly that fine too. But to run a headline like check out her body and all is just grotesque journalism. She is 16 years old and the media should know better than to steep down to such a level. We are a progressive family but this is just absurd."

22 May 2018: Happy Birthday Suhana: 5 times SRK opened up about her

Shah Rukh Khan's princess Suhana Khan is celebrating her 18th birthday today. Mother Gauri Khan yesterday shared her picture on Instagram with the caption, "Gearing up for a birthday bash."

Over the years, SRK has spoken about his kids umpteen times in his media interactions, pertaining to varied reasons.

Here's a look at what all he has said about his darling daughter.

Acting debut: Here's what King Khan said on Suhana entering Bollywood

There is immense curiosity as to when Suhana will make her Bollywood debut.

However, SRK wants her to complete her education first.

"We have a simple rule in the family. Each one of us has to have an undergraduate degree at least. Suhana still has 4-5 years to go before she can start acting. She has to be an undergraduate first," he had said.

Details: SRK has vowed to support Suhana in all her endeavors

Every father or mother wants their children to excel in life. They do whatever they can to help them out. SRK is no different.

He once said, "Of course, I'll help my daughter like any other regular parent would. I will support her in all her endeavors. I will cry with her when she fails and I will celebrate with her when she succeeds."

Media attention: When SRK politely requested paparazzi to go easy on Suhana

Paparazzi have been closely following Suhana for years now and there have been instances when they went overboard, thus, forcing SRK to intervene.

"I have a request for you all. If you spot my kids, be nice to them. They are not used to paparazzi like I am and they can't handle you people like I do," he said in a press conference.

Dating: SRK has laid down some ground rules in this regard

That SRK is extremely possessive about all his children is a well-known fact.

In an interview sometime back, he put forth some guidelines for any guy who wants to date Suhana.

He said, "Get a job; understand I don't like you; I'm everywhere; get a lawyer; she's my princess; I don't mind going to jail; what you do to her I'll do to you."

Controversies: When Suhana's bikini picture went viral

Being a doting father that he is, SRK was furious at the media when her bikini picture was circulated online.

Lambasting publications, he said, "She was on a beach so she was wearing beachwear. She was with her little brother. You clicked her sheepishly that is fine too. But to run headlines like check out her body and all is just grotesque journalism."

Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana looks drop-dead-gorgeous in this pic shared by mom Gauri ahead of her 18th birthday

We can't take our eyes off Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's gorgeous daughter Suhana Khan. The star kid, who's all set to celebrate her 18th birthday tomorrow, looks drop-dead-gorgeous in this recent picture shared by mom Gauri. Suhana will turn 18 on this May 22 and it looks only like yesterday when we would spot her, accompanying dad Shah Rukh for one of the IPL matches.

Suhana looks nothing less than a diva in the picture shared by Gauri. As she turns a year older on Tuesday, we wonder if the parents have planned some sort of surprise for her. A big birthday bash or a special gift may be? After all, one doesn't turn 18 on every birthday, right?

Apart from being daddy's favourite girl and mommy's adorable daughter, Suhana is also a favourite among netizens on social media. Though, several accounts on Twitter can be found in her name, but Shah Rukh has previously clarified in an interview that her daughter is not on any social media platform.

The star kid does aim to enter Bollywood but daddy SRK has given strict instructions that that can happen only after she completes her graduation. We've seen glimpses of Suhana's acting chops in a few videos from her school play and need we say, she left everyone spellbound by her performance.

While there's still time for Suhana to make her Bollywood debut, she will soon be seen gracing the cover of a magazine. Gauri Khan had shared that Suhana has already shot for the magazine cover, during an award function.

IPL 2018, SRH vs KKR: Anxious Shah Rukh Khan happy to see smiling faces after Kolkata's playoffs confirmation Updated May 20, 2018 | 07:05 IST | Times Now Digital
After youngster Prasidh Krishna's four-wicket haul and a stellar spell from Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn's knock of 55 runs ably supported by Robin Uthappa 45 scripted KKR's win over the table toppers. Moments after the win, an anxious Shah Rukh Khan expressed his joy through words on Twitter.

Shah Rukh Khan and Dinesh Karthik Shah Rukh Khan and Dinesh Karthik New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders on late Saturday night (May 19) thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to become the third team to qualify for the playoffs in Indian Premier League 2018. After youngster Prasidh Krishna's four-wicket haul and a stellar spell from Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn's knock of 55 runs ably supported by Robin Uthappa 45 scripted KKR's win over the table toppers.

Moments after the win, an anxious Shah Rukh Khan expressed his joy through words on Twitter.Opting to bat first, the hosts got off to a blistering start with the score standing 66/0 at the end of the powerplay riding on a superb opening partnership from Shikhar Dhawan and Sreevats Goswami. However, Dhawan and Kane Williamson's dismissal and a dismal strike rate at the slog overs restricted their run to just 172/9.

Lynn and Narine took Kolkata off to a brisk start. The Aussie notched up his sixth IPL fifty, while Uthappa showed some old spark with his knock of 45 runs.

The pair countered the spin-attack combo of Shakin Al Hasan and Rashid Khan before skipper Dinesh Karthik gave the finishing touch to register a five-wicket win for KKR."Been awake 24hrs to see these smiles. Thx @DineshKarthik @prasidh43 (well done young man) @robbieuthappa ( v have to exercise 2gether) @lynny50 (wow mate) & @SunilPNarine74 is...Sunil. Very happy cant sleep now!!" tweeted KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan moments after the team's five-wicket win in Hyderabad

After a disappointing 102-run defeat to Mumbai, Kolkata bagged three back-to-back victories on the trot to script their journey to the playoffs. The Bollywood superstar wasn't a happy man after the Mumbai loss, but Dinesh-led KKR brought back smile on his face as he had tweeted, "My Captain @DineshKarthik asked me to smile cos I was so disappointed at the match before. This pic is for him. Thx @Russell12A @prasidh43 @SunilPNarine74 & #KKRTeam. Onwards & up…"

After the win over SRH, Karthik, in the post-match presentation said, " I think all eight teams strive for the play-off spots, so happy to reach there. Things are slowly settling down. Just the way we are playing shows good character. I'd like to think that (we're peaking at the right time)."

This is the ‘most fashionable’ Shah Rukh Khan can ever get. We will take it

Shah Rukh Khan took to Instagram to share his 60s style fashion look.
If you would want to wear a leather jacket in India in mid-summer, most will scoff at you. You may get derisive sniggers too. But when Shah Rukh Khan decides to sport leather in the same weather, we cannot but agree – maybe shamefacedly – that the actor can carry the look off. The weather be damned.

On Friday night, SRK shared a photo on Instagram wearing a leather jacket and blow-dried hair and wrote, “Friday Night: Me u and my leather jacket...” Finally a chilly enough day to wear my jacket & yeah 60’s kinda hairstyle. This is the most fashionable I can get...!”

Well, we will take it.

Shah Rukh at present is busy with the shoot of his upcoming film, Zero. Directed by Aaanand L Rai, it will star Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles as well. He also has his hands full with the current IPL season in which his team Kolkata Knight Riders is competing.

Recently, a few players from KKR shared videos where they were seen delivering some of the popular dialogues from Shah Rukh’s movies. While some failed hilariously, others carried off the dialogues in the best desi style. SRK, however, had the best comeback, “As much as I love my team, here’s the deal. I leave the cricket to u & u leave the acting to me!! Ha ha.”

Hollywood is learning the ways of appeasing Indian audiences to grow their foothold and connecting with Indian movie stars and making them the front to promote the movies is the latest trend they are following. Ranveer Singh is the voice of Deadpool in the second movie of the franchise. Before that, Rana Daggubati was the voice of villain Thanos in the Telugu version of Avengers: Infinity War.

The list goes on. Tiger Shroff voiced Peter Parker in the Hindi version of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Varun Dhawan was Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War, Arshad Warsi was the voice of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean and Shah Rukh Khan was Mr Incredible in 2004 movie The Incredibles' Hindi version.

What we are going to describe now may fall under 'mild spoiler' category for Deadpool 2 So those who don't want to know about it, please turn away right now and read the spoiler-free review instead.

Speaking of Deadpool and Shah Rukh Khan, the latest outing of Merc with Mouth pays tribute to Badshah of Bollywood and Mozart of Madras AR Rahman's movie Swades. Of course, it is done in that particular Deadpool style of insulting and loving everyone at the same time.

In 2016's Deadpool, when Wade Wilson aka Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) met Indian cab driver Dopinder (Karan Soni) for the first time, we heard Raj Kumar's iconic 'Mera Joota Hai Japani' from the movie Shree 420. The song didn't serve a purpose then. It just established that Dopinder is Indian.

But in Deadpool 2, towards the climax, we hear AR Rahman and Shah Rukh Khan's song 'Yuhin Chala Chal' from movie Swades. In the scene, Deadpool, Cable (Josh Brolin), and Domino (Zazzie Beetz) double down on Cable over his racist nature as he orders Dopinder to turn the volume down on the inspiring, cheerful song while they all are inching towards some serious action scenes (that also include massive CGI fights). To Hindi speaking ears, the joke makes more sense because the song asks the squad to keep marching on even though one of them is being racist, difficult, obtuse and all of the above.

Deadpool 2 is filled with such gags. So when you walk in to watch the movie on Friday, be alert and don't miss references and brilliant cameos.

Shah Rukh Khan puts forth his conditions to be a part of 'Vikram Vedha' Hindi remake?
If reports are to be believed, then Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in to star in the Hindi remake of R Madhavan's 'Vikram Vedha'. However, it's not easy to woo over the Badshah of Bollywood. Reports suggest that SRK had put forward two conditions for him to accept the project.

Condition one is that R Madhavan will play his role even in the remake and that he reprises the part of Vijay Sethupathi; the other one is that Neeraj Pandey will not only produce but also direct the film. The original director duo, Pushkar and Gayatri were supposedly retained for the remake too. However, with SRK’s conditions, the scenario might change. Let’s wait and watch.

Recently there were rumours that Shah Rukh Khan might not star in the Hindi remake of 2017 neo-noir Tamil drama, 'Vikram Vedha'. But now reports have it that the actor has finally given a nod for the project.According to a report by an online portal, SRK wanted two major changes in the script, but the makers were unwilling to accommodate them initially.

However, after Neeraj Pandey acquired the remake rights of the film SRK's demands were eventually fulfilled and Neeraj is keen on having Shah Rukh Khan on board for the project. If reports are to be believed then Shah Rukh Khan was offered Madhavan's role in the remake but SRK demanded to play the role of Vijay Sethupathi. Earlier the makers were not sure about the same but latest reports suggest that they have agreed to SRK's demand.Initially, there were reports speculating that the original director duo, Pushkar, and Gayatri will be directing the remake.

But SRK wasn't convinced about the same and wanted Neeraj Pandey to direct the film. Reportedly the makers have even agreed to this demand. Official announcements of the project are yet to be made. Currently, Shah Rukh Khan is shooting for Aanand L Rai’s 'Zero'. The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in key roles. 'Zero' is slated to release on December 21, 2018.

But the actor has two conditions towards working in the remake, reports Bollywood Life.
One such condition is that R. Madhavan will play his role even in the remake and the superstar himself will reprise the part of Vijay Sethupathi.

The other condition SRK put forth is that the movie will not only be produced by but also directed by Neeraj Pandey, states the same report.

The original director duo, Pushkar and Gayatri were reportedly being retained for the remake too, but it appears that SRK doesn’t want that to happen and he wants Neeraj’s storytelling for this one.

The author looks back at previous 'World Expos' and lists his expectations from the upcoming one

Dubai will be hosting the World Expo in 2020. Dubai, true to its penchant for grandeur, in fact for everything grandiose, promises to make it an experience like never-never-before. A massive dome with a trellis framework is being designed as the structure that will dominate the Expo 2020 site in Dubai South, doubling up as a 360-degree screen at night, projecting images to thousands of visitors both inside and outside.

Built of light, translucent material, the dome at Al Wasl Plaza – 65 metres tall with a diameter of 150m – will hold an estimated 10,000 visitors. Filled with fountains, waterfalls, parks and palm-lined courtyards, the dome will be partly open to the sky at the top. Most importantly, while the expo area, its domes, its pavilions, its entertainment parks, its gardens and fountains get ready for 2020, Dubai already has a powerful brand ambassador hard-selling the event many months in advance.

Dubai has been running commercials with India’s most stylish Khan, SRK, (inviting the world to Dubai with a heartwarming #BeMyGuest campaign that started a year ago, and has gained momentum with more renditions in the past few months.

The new King Khan-Dubai commercial is currently being aggressively pushed on social media. More so, on WhatsApp, a medium rarely tried so far by any brand. The new SRK commercial was seeded on WhatsApp about three weeks ago, and informed sources say it has already been seen 18 million times so far.

The commercial is accompanied by a short introductory write up that says SRK charged Rs. 30 crore for the advertisement; he stayed at the Burj Al-Arab hotel’s Royal Suite; traveled in a private jet from Mumbai to Dubai; his wardrobe cost was USD 25,000. The narration goes on to credit Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid’s (Ruler of Dubai) wife Rania for the concept and idea behind the Dubai 2020 commercial.
Most WhatsApp users in India would have received a forward of this commercial from a friend or someone from the family.

To be honest, the SRK commercials are nice, but not really outstanding. The launch commercial of a year ago used two visual devices to good effect. The first was SRK wearing a hooded parka, in partial disguise, which worked well to hide his identity till he decided to show himself to unbelieving members of the public.

The second was the excitement and surprise at meeting SRK expressed by covering the face with the palms by all who met the superstar, so unexpectedly. That expression is almost common across all sequences in the commercial. SRK is his usual genial, amiable self, playing the good host.

Be it in the souk or joining the youngsters on a plane going sky-diving or meeting the aunty-ji while jogging or playing beach volleyball or shopping in the mall or serving up a meal in a restaurant, Shah Rukh is his natural self, unpretentious, somewhat mischievous and happily playful.

The cinematography in the commercial is outstanding, especially the end shots of the dancing fountains at the Burj. Dubai looks warm and welcoming with SRK as the host, and ambassador.

Unfortunately, the follow-up SRK commercial is a bit ‘A’ for ‘Apple’, ‘B’ for ‘Boy’. Directed by Kabir Khan, the sequel is not half as good. The honeymooning couple looks very bored, and tensed. The young footballer looks as if he is in a daze. The girls from LA on a road trip and the boys from Singapore look a bit contrived. The parents from Mumbai and the family from NY all look as if they are getting ready for a re-make of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam or some such tear-jerker … very clichéd, very Bollywood.

The camera shoot-throughs at Lego Land and Opera Dubai also look somewhat forced. The entire narrative in this commercial lacks the surprise and spontaneity of the earlier commercial. SRK looks far more forced in this version of the Dubai 2020 invitation.

You cannot blame Dubai for trying hard, in fact very hard, well in advance of the Expo 2020. The promise of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ is not going to be easy to deliver. Dubai despite its reputation for being everything that is tallest-biggest-grandest-costliest etc., may already be falling short of what was done for the World Expo, way back in 1889 when Paris hosted a similar world fair. Paris erected the Eiffel Tower, the iconic wrought iron lattice edifice on the Champ de Mars, to welcome the world to its fair. At 324 meters (1,063 feet) in height, the Eiffel then became the tallest man-made structure in the world.

Ever since, over 250 million people have visited this monument. Nothing in the current Dubai plans shows anything quite as monumental or as impactful or as memorable being created for the Dubai fair. Of course there are interesting architectural creations, and possibly well done pavilions too, but somehow after the initial euphoria, Dubai 2020 seems to have lost some of its zing.

The World Expos trace their history to 1851 when the first World Expo was held at The Crystal Palace (The Great Shalimar, as it was also known) in Hyde Park, London. Titled ‘The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations’ it was an idea of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband. The Koh-i-Noor diamond was displayed at the World Fair as part of the India exhibit, as it had been acquired by Great Britain in 1850 as part of the Lahore Treaty.

Also on display was the gorgeous, Daria-i-Noor, one of the rarest pale pink diamonds in the world. The early 8th century Tara Brooch, the finest penannular Irish brooch ever, was also put up for display by Dublin jeweler George Waterhouse.  Interestingly, this World Fair also saw the first modern pay toilets being installed, with 827,280 visitors paying 1 penny fee to use them. In fact ‘Spending a penny’ became a euphemism for using a toilet ever after.

World Expos have been used to showcase many marvels of technology over the past 150 years. In the 1851 London fair mentioned above, Thomas Hancock and Charles Goodyear showcased Vulcanised Rubber to the world, precursor to the invention of automobile tyres. Again in London in 1862, Henry Maudslay showcased the world’s first maritime Steam Engines. The Philadelphia fair in 1876 saw a Typewriter created for the first time by E. Remington and Son, with a QWERTY keyboard that typed only capital letters. Heinz publicized its Ketchup for the first time at this World Fair. Alexander Bell’s Telephone too was first showcased at the Philadelphia fair.

The Chicago 1893 World Fair saw the debut of Architect George Ferris’s Wheel. The first ever Ferris wheel had a 264 foot diameter featuring 36 enclosed cabins and dominated the landscape of the fair. Also at the Chicago fair, over two hundred thousand electric light bulbs were illuminated by Tesla's polyphase alternating current system, making it the most festive looking world fair till then. The first steam powered Tricycle was demoed at Paris World Fair in 1889 by Serpollet-Peugeot. In the year 1900, at Paris again, Rudolf Diesel unveiled the world an engine that would use compressed air to ignite fuel and generate energy. At the same fair Clement Maurice showcased a short film, ‘Cyrano De Bergerac’. The film shot in colour was synchronized to a wax cylinder recording, and is the precursor to modern cinema.

A year later, at Buffalo in 1901, Dr. Sartori Kato presented to the world, a new concoction, the Instant Coffee, for the first time creating a stable soluble coffee powder. In the fair Wilhelm Rontgen unveiled the X-Ray machine. Saint Louis in 1904 saw Harvey Hubbell present his patented plug and socket electrical outlet that kicked off a tidal wave of electrification.

But Saint Louis will actually be more remembered for the fact that the Ice Cream Cone was invented for this World Fair. Ham Burgers, Hot Dogs, Peanut Butter, Cotton Candy and Ice Tea too received world recognition at this fair. The rest, as they say, is history.

One can go on and on about how World Expos have been the home to many inventions over the years. I was fortunate to be at the Aichi World Fair in Japan in 2005. I witnessed Maglev unveil their revolutionary magnetic levitation, used to move objects without touching the ground. In fact I had the privilege of riding the HSST ‘Linimo’ line at the 2005 Expo. What an experience!   Dubai 2020 is still some time away. While Shah Rukh Khan is already active wooing tourists from India, the Expo itself requires to have more magnetism. All the attractions, all the events publicised so far still fall short of the grandeur that one has come to expect from World Fairs. Dubai has never disappointed.

And I am sure they will maintain the same track record of innovation and discovery. The element of ‘surprise’ at Dubai 2020, will hopefully go beyond a handshake with Shah Rukh.

(Sandeep Goyal has been a Dubai fan for well-over 25 years. He has seen the city grow from a sandy lagoon to an amazing cosmosopolis over the past two decades. He has great expectations from Dubai 2020.)

Aryan Khan Looks Like Dad "Shah Rukh Khan"
Gauri Khan posted a photo of Shah Rukh Khan and son Aryan Khan on Instagram and we think it's safe to say that it pretty viral already.

Hello there, Aryan Khan. So good to see you! Gauri Khan posted a photo of Shah Rukh Khan and son Aryan Khan on Instagram and we think it's safe to say that it pretty viral already! Instagrammed on Thursday morning, the photo has garnered almost 2 lakh 'likes' by evening with over 2,030 comments pouring in.

What's interesting is that, a majority of Gauri Khan's Instafam (count in choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan and interior designer Sussanne Khan) thinks that the 19-year-old Khan looks just like his superstar father. Farah Khan's comment is basically all of us: "Can't decide who is handsomer," she wrote while Sussanne added: "Uff! I think I died and went to heaven."

Other users on Gauri's Instagram posted reviews like: "Like father like son", "Same double copy", "Can't decide which one is Shah Rukh."

This is what we are talking about:

It's a delight of course but also quite a bit surprising to see Aryan Khan make an official appearance on mom Gauri's Instagram because he already has a reputation for not being a big fan of the social media fever. In September last year, Gauri dared to share a photo of Aryan with this disclaimer: "Posting an image of my son without his permission... hope I don't get fired." Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan had also revealed that he was forbidden by his family to share photos of them on social media. But he turned out to be a rule breaker, just like Gauri.

Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana, 17, is finishing school and goes to Mumbai's Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Meanwhile, Aryan is in California, where he's pursuing a course in filmmaking. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri are also parents to little AbRam, who will soon turn five.
